چکیده
Abstract The impact of plasma nitriding on the microstructure and hardness a recently developed 4 wt.-% medium manganese steel are presented. In contrast to standard quench tempering steels, investigated material achieves its martensitic by air-cooling from forging heat, which enables reduction carbon footprint forged components. influence this grade has not been so far, but fundamental differences in comparison steels expected due increased concentration. To address issue, treatments with different temperatures (350 °C, 580 °C 650 °C) have performed, followed examinations microstructure, phase composition, obtained profiles tensile properties bulk after nitriding, accompanied thermodynamic equilibrium calculations. It is demonstrated that at similar like achieved, shorter process as austenitization hardening were omitted, reaching approximately 950 HV0.1. Furthermore, it was austenite can be stabilized nitrogen partitioning room temperature during intercritical region.

متن کاملNanosized precipitates in H13 tool steel low temperature plasma nitriding
A comprehensive study of pulsed nitriding in AISI H13 tool steel at low temperature (400°C) is reported for several durations. X-ray diffraction results reveal that a nitrogen enriched compound (-Fe2-3N, iron nitride) builds up on the surface within the first process hour despite the low process temperature. Beneath the surface, X-ray Wavelength Dispersive Spectroscopy (WDS) in a Scanning Elec...
متن کاملForgeability Study of Medium Carbon Micro-Alloyed Forging Steel
Micro-alloyed steel components are used in automotive industry for the necessity to make the manufacturing process cycles shorter when compared to conventional steel by eliminating heat treatment cycles, so an important saving of costs and energy can be reached by reducing the number of operations. Microalloying elements like vanadium, niobium or titanium have been added to medium carbon steels...
متن کاملVanadium Effect on a Medium Carbon Forging Steel
In the present work the influence of vanadium on the hardenability and the bainitic transformation of a medium carbon steel is analyzed. While V in solid solution enhances the former, it hardly affects bainitic transformation. The results also reveal an unexpected result, an increase of the prior austenite grain size as the V content increases.

The effects of gas nitriding temperature on the cross section morphology, element nitrogen distribution, and surface layer compositions of a cold rolled and pre-strained high manganese austenitic TWIP steel 25Mn-3Cr-3Al-0.3C-0.01N and the corresponding anti-corrosion ability have been studied. The results show that, depending on nitriding temperature, the distribution of element nitrogen and ma...
